900 Days and One More Life

900 Days and One More Life

This past weekend our beautiful furry girl hobbled, shook, stumbled, grumbled and panted in pain.  We were mixed with heart-wrenching grief, gratitude for the many extra days and a sliver of hope that we could relieve her pain.  As it turns out, our entire family was together for the first time in 9 months.  We loved on this dog constantly.

As we’re not happy with the “oh, well, she’s old” vet, we called a friend’s mobile vet to come to the house.  We were hoping for pain relief but fully understood it might be euthanasia.  With stoic resolve we watched the clock waiting for 9am and the vet’s arrival.

Ok, phone call.  The mobile vet couldn’t remember setting up our appointment.  He couldn’t understand Joe’s first name over the phone.  He couldn’t understand the directions to our home.  ???  Apparently, we needed to not have this appointment.  Sophie looked at us, clearly and cheerfully, as she walked between us.  I swear this was her happy dance.  (News flash - she couldn’t walk when we made the appointment.)

900 days after Sophie’s imminently terminal diagnosis, we were at a new-to-us vet, who was knowledgable, loving and practical.  With much conversation and a physical exam, she determined Sophie has spinal arthritis.  We did recall Snoop-Dawg’s glorious rabbit chase in the yard the week before, which made her look 10 years younger but apparently left her feeling 10 years older.  oh.

With rest and a new arthritis medicine, Sophie is back to bright-eyed and her almost-normal slow and steady.

This photo is from a frame of a video of her playing with her toy yesterday. yep.

Cats are the ones with 9 lives?

Wishing you Love and Miracles in your life.
