Havarti Cheese Sauce
After watching Pixar’s dumpling short animation before Incredibles 2, we had a need to make dumplings. Anyone else?
Well, our recipe-less dumplings were dumpy, but our cheese sauce for the mangled dumplings was really good!
1 cup half-n-half
3/4 cup havarti cheese
1 Tablespoon hazelnut flour
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
Fresh from the garden sprigs of basil, thyme, rosemary and oregano wrapped in a cheese cloth (so we could remove the herbs before serving).
In a saucepan on medium heat, mix the hazelnut flour in the half-n-half, then add the cheesecloth with the herbs. When it’s really warm, add the salt and stir in the havarti cheese. Stir it often and watch the heat. Burnt cheese is only appreciated by a few of us. When it’s melted, it’s ready.
Use the cheese sauce on sautéed vegetables or beef.
Yes, you can use a different flour. I insist on havarti cheese though. It melts well!
Christie - I used a quick version and it was still delicious. I put the cream, cheese and spices in the pot all at once (no cheesecloth), heated on low-ish, and stirred often until the cheese melted. Poured over stovetop veggies. Delish!!
