Becoming vs Doing, a Spiritual Perspective
Shift your focus to Becoming rather than doing.
What’s the difference between Becoming and doing?
Doing is moving along busily on the path of humanity. Do your work. Do your chores. Do your obligations.
Let’s hold on to the responsibility of all that, but re-evaluate the activity.
Becoming is a natural process of unfolding into your evolutionary potential. Guided by stillness and inspiration, it’s a journey of your true self. What about your responsibilities? The holy process of Becoming is one of Love and therefore respect and connection and authenticity. It’s not passive. You will meet your responsibilities and gain so much more. The shift comes from a partnership with yourSelf.
Why capital S? Although we are quite human, our core is divine. The energy Source that courses through each of us comes from the Infinite Consciousness, also known as God. The name “God” often comes with the attachment of past learning, emotions, questions of how different people use the name, and, therefore, distortion. By using different terms, I seek for a symbol/name without any maleficence. God is Love. God is our Source. God is Infinite Consciousness. When I stopped thinking of God as an old man with a white beard with a rule book sitting in judgement on a throne in the clouds, my world became expansive, both internally and externally. I experience the Light of His Love in myself and others. This is the core of each of us where we find our inner guide. Call it Guide, Holy Spirit, Intuition, Universal Knowledge or such, but all these names are merely symbols of an un-nameable energy. This core is accessible to all of us because it is necessarily within each of us; it simply requires awareness and stillness. This shift may take time, but like exercising a muscle, the connection becomes strong.
Back to the Becoming point. Becoming is a natural process. When we get out of our own way, we can use our Inner Guide to point the way. When you get an inkling or an idea that is rooted in Love, trust it. I’m convinced that no amount of strategic planning will give you all the perfect steps in your unfolding. Trust may be a radical concept. Here’s why I think we’re inclined to shy away from it… from the time we are tiny, someone we trusted, many someones, guide us to who we “should” be. We’re given rules, regulations, and societal norms to which we conform, without even realizing it. We’re taught it’s perfectly normal to follow the rules without question. During this domestication (Don Miguel Ruiz’s term), we’re not aware of being pushed and pulled away from our state of perfect creation. We are put in boxes and given boxes to check and rules to pass along to others. We adopt expectations which don’t enhance the truth of who we are. Without conscious witnessing, we may go on without ever questioning why we feel we don’t fit or don’t belong or are unworthy or are depressed. That pain is pointing us to the acceptance of someone else’s opinions of us and has nothing to do with our ultimate truth, which is only Love. So, the Becoming is a journey of re-connection with who we are in Truth. What’s the benefit? Everything. Jesus said, “The truth will set you free.” Quick breakdown: Truth, the deepest level of truth in context of unconditional love from our connection with our Creator - and - you, meaning the perfect creation in your wholeness in connection with our Creator, and nothing less. So when you dive through the illusions to the core, it’s simple Truth. The Becoming is the trust in the process, of learning our lessons of reconnection, of uncovering our God-given gifts, of living in our highest potential. Not in arrogance, but in simplicity. Uncovering, discovering, Becoming.
The world needs you, and me, and every person, to be authentically herSelf/himSelf. When we live in accordance with our Truth, we love, we connect, we flourish, we shine, we encourage. Each individual’s Truth is just that. Why do we try to alter it? As if some human, during some point in time, knew best. Seriously. It’s time to awaken. With awareness of your own truth, your best life will serve you, your family, your community, your world, and God. The perfect Creator didn’t make a mistake in your creation or mine. Let’s live in that and unveil our potential. Let’s see how we benefit the world with this one shift.
